Coventry’s universities celebrate success in annual guide
COVENTRY University and the University of Warwick are celebrating league table success.
The Complete University Guide league table for 2019 was released this week and Coventry’s two universities both fared well in the annual report.
Of all the universities in the West Midlands, Coventry University placed fourth and the University of Warwick got the number one spot.
The University of Warwick ranks in the top ten for 19 of the 28 subjects it teaches, and came first in the UK for creative writing, whilst 10 of Coventry University’s subjects were ranked in the top 20.
The annual guide ranks 129 universities by measuring student satisfaction, research quality and graduate prospects.
Coventry University was ranked 47th in the overall league table.
It appeared in 40 tables for separate subjects and ranked in the top 10 for three of those.
Those courses are hospitality, leisure, recreation and tourism (eighth) occupational therapy (seventh) and physiotherapy (sixth).
Coventry also features in the top 20 for a further seven subject areas - art and design, building, drama, dance and cinematics, forensic science, food science, general engineering and sports science.
Vice-Chancellor John Latham is delighted with the university’s success.

The University of Warwick ranked in the top 10 universities in the UK, coming in ninth. The university has never finished outside of the UK’s top ten universities in this table. Their successes include coming top of the table for creative writing, third for economics, third for business and fifth for computer science.
A spokesperson for the university said: “Warwick has consistently been ranked in the top 10 of every major UK university league table since their creation. “While you have to take each individual league table with a pinch of salt, as they each differ in how they calculate rankings, the fact that we are in top ten of all of them suggests Warwick is indeed highly regarded and will continue to be highly attractive to students and staff.”
