City pub hosts music night for mayor’s appeal

A MUSICAL extravagan­za will be hitting the high notes to help boost this year’s Nuneaton and Bedworth Civic Appeal.

The event takes place at The Boat Inn, Blackhorse Road, Longford on Saturday, May 12, starting at noon, with the music getting under way at 1pm. Admission is £4 for adults and free for children

The day also including charity stalls, face painting, magician, fairground rides, barbecue and outside bar.

The appeal, spearheade­d by the Mayor, Cllr Bill Hancox, is raising funds to buy equipment for the Lymphoedem­a Clinic based at Mary Ann Evans Hospice and wants to raise awareness of Secondary Lymphoedem­a.

Cllr Hancox said: “We are really looking forward to the day, which offers something for all of the family, which is the last event of my year as Mayor.

“So come along, have a great time and know you are helping raise much needed funds for a good cause at the same time.’’

Acts who will be playing outside from 1pm include J. Kirsty Clarke and The Beating Hearts, Mick Smith, Dave Jagger, Gary Shires and Will Ball.

The outside session concludes with an hour-long set of covers by Undercover before swing vocalist Kevin Temple to the stage.

He will be followed by Built For Comfort, a six piece band who will be playing two 45-minute sets of blues and rhythm and blues inside the venue.

The day is being organised by local musician Steve Young, who said: “We are delighted to be able to help out with this fantastic appeal.

“We believe we have a varied bill of artistes playing, and hope we have arranged what will be a day to remember at The Boat.’’
