Fans want to buy Boro

-

NUNEATON Town fans are preparing to create a consortium to buy the club and ground.

Members of the board of Nuneaton Town Supporters’ Cooperative (NTSC) have received documents which contain the price tag to buy their beloved club and the Liberty Way-based stadium .

Remaining tight-lipped about the cost, NTSC says that it will be looking to form a consortium and it is understood that some local businesses have shown interest in joining.

Ben Bruce of NTSC said: “We will be seeking to raise funds for our portion of the purchase through a community share offer, however the exact terms will need to be negotiated with any potential partners.”

He added that they are keen to meet with any other partners who may wish to join the bid.

But, if no deal can be struck, he added that NTSC are prepared to go it alone and fund the whole buy-out themselves.

“Throughout the whole process in both scenarios we will be working closely with Supporters’ Direct who have huge experience in successfully helping fan organisations raise funds for the purchase of sports clubs,” he added.

He added that the buy-out is crucial for the future of the club following former chair Lee Thorn’s shock announcement at the weekend that he was not only standing down, but also selling the club and ground.

The announcement also came at a time when it was confirmed that the club can once again be called Nuneaton Borough , having been given permission by the Football Association.

“The long term future of Nuneaton Borough is our top priority,” Mr Bruce said.

“Securing a deal for the club as quickly as possible will help ensure we remain competitive next season.”

The NTSC AGM is due to take place on May 16 and Mr Bruce said that they are planning on hosting an open meeting where people can find out more about their plans.

In the meantime, any businesses who are interested in the consortium should email info@nbfccoop.co.uk
