LOTS OF INTEREST IN JOINING BUY-OUT BID

- CLAIRE HARRISON

NUNEATON Town Supporters Co-operative say they have been ‘overwhelmed’ by the response to their bid to buy out the club and stadium.

In just a week members of the board of Nuneaton Town Supporters’ Cooperative (NTSC) have revealed that they’ve had a number of not-yet-named firms come forward to find out their plans to form a consortium to buy their beloved club and the Liberty Waybased stadium.

Ben Bruce of the NTSC said: “We’ve been working hard to put in place a plan that will ensure this club is forever run with the community’s needs at heart.

“In putting this idea out there in conversations with the people who can help us, we have been

overwhelmed by the responses we’ve had back and we’re really excited to try and formalise something in the coming weeks, so that the Boro can begin planning for the new season.”

The price tag of buying the ground and club has not been revealed but it is understood that NTSC wants to raise funds for its portion of the buy-out through a community share offer.

All eyes will now be on a special meeting on May 21, hosted by an intermediary, where members are due to meet face-to-face with the interested parties to try and thrash out a way forward.

Mr Bruce urged anyone who is interested in finding out more about the consortium plans to join in - especially those who may be making a rival bid.

“We are aware of a number of other interested parties, and what

we would say to any others thinking of making a bid, is to get in touch and see how we can all work together,” he said.

“That truly has to be the best thing for the Boro, and their fans.”

It was after the last game of the season, when Nuneaton Town took on Blythe Spartans, at the Liberty Way-based stadium, chairman Lee Thorn announced that he would be standing down from his role, as well as selling the club and ground. His announcement came at a time when it was also revealed that the club has been given permission from the FA to go back to its roots and be called Nuneaton Borough, following a vote among fans last year.
