Badly damaged car hits bike and is then involved in head-on crash

A BADLY damaged car mounted a pavement and hit a quad bike outside a busy parade of shops in Coventry.

The silver/grey Honda Civic, with dented doors, a broken wing mirror, a shattered windscreen and smashed rear window, was caught on video driving erraticall­y in Wood End on Thursday afternoon. It was later involved in a head-on smash involving two motorbikes and another car in Stoney Stanton Road, Foleshill.

The dramatic incident unfolded outside the shops on the corner of Hillmorton Road and Lillington Road, Wood End, at around 3.30pm.

The car can be seen driving between bollards and onto the pavement before smashing into a white quad bike parked outside the shops. No-one was sitting on the quad bike at the time, but someone in the back of the car can be seen gesticulat­ing out of the window as a member of the public appears to throw something into the car. The car is then driven away at speed chased by several people on foot and on bikes.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokespers­on said: “We received a call at 4.06pm to attend an incident on Stoney Stanton Road.

“I can confirm that the call came from the police. We dispatched two crews to the scene.

“One came from Coventry, and one from Foleshill. Nine firefighte­rs attended in total.

“The incident was a collision involving three cars and two motorbikes. Two males were treated at the scene by paramedics.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokespers­on said: “We were called to the scene of an RTC involving two cars and two motorbikes just after 4pm.

“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended. They treated and conveyed a teenage boy – one of the motorbike drivers.

“He suffered abdominal pain, and was given pain relief and taken to UHCW. There were no other patients and every other party was discharged at the scene.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called to a collision between two cars and a motorcycle in Stoney Stanton Road around 4pm yesterday (10 May).

“The rider of the motorcycle, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatenin­g injuries.

“The driver of a blue Honda Civic, seen shortly before the crash driving erraticall­y, fled the scene.

“The driver of a red Fiat 500 remained unhurt and is assisting police with their enquiries.”
