One of most liked motorways in UK is in Warwickshire
WHAT makes a good motorway?
Be it light traffic, few roadworks, or even a good selection of food at the service stations some motorways are just a cut above the rest.
And according to motorists, one of Warwickshire’s own is the second best in the UK.
Connecting Birmingham to London, the M40 passes through Warwickshire, with junctions for Coventry, Warwick, Leamington and more - and for the motorists surveyed by InsuretheGap.com, there is just one motorway that tops it.
The 2,000 motorists surveyed concluded that the A66, a 115-mile motorway standard road in the north of England is the best of the best.
So what’s so good about the M40? The 89-mile road may have been shunted into second place, but the five top reasons for liking the M40 paint it in a positive light.
According InsureTheGap, reasons are:
Plenty of petrol/service stations - including the Welcome Break at Warwick to those
The service stations have a good selection of shops and eateries Traffic is light Not too many roadworks Rarely any debris In all fairness, the reasons for the A66 topping the charts are rather similar to the M40. Those reasons are:
The service stations have a good selection of shops and eateries
Plenty of petrol/service stations Traffic is light It’s well lit Unfortunately, while the M40 was the second most liked motorway, the M6 was voted the second least liked motorway.
The UK’s longest motorway, it is also one of the busiest.
The top five reasons given for avoiding the M6 were:
Not enough speed cameras Feeling unsafe Too few service stations Confusing signage The least liked motorway was the M25 - also known as the London Orbital Motorway, which encircles the vast majority of Greater London.
Surprisingly, 17 percent of those surveyed said that they avoid motorways altogether.
