Slowest broadband streets

- By DUNCAN GIBBONS Head of Audience

THE streets with the fastest and slowest broadband internet in Coventry and Warwickshire have been revealed.

Across the UK more than a quarter of homes still receive speeds of less than 10Mbps - which has been defined by Ofcom as the minimum required for a decent browsing experience - while one in eight cannot even exceed 5Mbps.

The street with the slowest downloads in Coventry and Warwickshire is Sargasso Lane in Nuneaton, achieving just 1.3Mbps on average.

In Coventry the fastest street has been revealed as Warwick Street in Earlsdon with an average of 55.657Mbps Sargasso Lane, Nuneaton 1.300 Windmill Road, Coventry 3.319 Lutterworth Road, Burton Hastings 4.108 Hollyfast Road, Coventry 4.526

Kenpas Highway, Coventry 5.492 Warwick Street, Coventry 55.657 Wentworth Drive, Nuneaton 53.881 Streamside Close, Allesley 47.371 Waverley Avenue, Nuneaton 33.015 Unicorn Avenue, Coventry 33.008

Abdon Avenue in Birmingham enjoys the UK’s fastest connections, while Greenmeadows Park in Bamfurlong, Gloucestershire, endures the slowest.

Those Birmingham residents can expect to receive an average download speed of 265Mbps, compared with just 0.14Mbps in Greenmeadows Park, which means the country’s fastest streets are some 2,000 times quicker than the slowest.

What this means in real terms is that residents in Greenmeadows Park would have to wait more than four days - 102 hours - to download a two-hour high-definition film on Netflix, whereas those on Abdon Avenue could complete this in less than four minutes.

The uSwitch research revealed that overall, broadband speeds are going up. Almost a third of users now receive speeds of over 30Mbps, up from just 22 per cent three years ago.

However, the findings indicated that many consumers may be unaware of what is available to them.

Even though 95 per cent of properties in the UK are now able to access superfast broadband of at least 24Mbps, only 56 per cent of Brits believe this is available in their area.

Indeed, Sargasso Lane in Nuneaton, Windmill Road in Coventry and Hollyfast Road in Coventry, which are among the slowest streets in Coventry and Warwickshire, all have access to superfast broadband, which suggests there is a lack of awareness about the options on offer.
