- By ELIS SANDFORD News Reporter elis.sandford@reachplc.com

IF you’ve ever fancied yourself as a bit of a Peggy Mitchell or Danny Dyer, this could be the moment that you’ve been waiting for.

What’s more, you don’t even have to head to The Queen Vic to do so, with the perfect pub opportunity cropping up right here in Coventry.

A very unique opportunity has cropped up - the chance to become the general manager of one of the city’s most popular pubs - The Aardvark.

And what’s more, the job also comes with accommodation just 10 minutes away from the city centre pub itself.

If that isn’t enough, the salary specified is £30,000 - £33,000.

But if you are interested, you don’t have too much time to ponder over it, because the deadline to apply is Monday, February 4.

Part of the Stonegate group - the largest privately-held pub operator in the UK, the Aardvark is one of the most well known pubs in Coventry.

Located on the Butts, it is frequented by students and locals.

With food and drink on offer, and live music and sport on the screens, there is something for everyone.

According to Coventry pub historians Real Ale Rambles, there has been a pub on the site since 1835, when it was known as the Hen and Chickens Hotel.

More recently from 1994 to 2001, it was The Fowl and Firkin, but following the sale of the Firkin chain, it became the Aardvark, and the on site brewery was removed.

This job sounds amazing, but fair warning, there are a few requirements needed before you apply.

The job advert states that they are looking to recruit an “experienced general manager”.

What’s more, the advert asks that “The successful applicant will have a passion for running a vibrant pub that caters well for students and locals. A love for sport and event planning for sporting fixtures is key for the success of this amazing site. The ability to drive food sales is key.

“You will need to be able to demonstrate great leadership skills and the ability to build a high performing team in order to control, develop and improve all aspects of the business including: P&L, people, standards, legal compliance, service and brand integrity.”

What’s more, Stonegate require all of their managers to have a personal licence.

As well as the salary, the accommodation, and the chance to tell people that you manage a pub, there are a fair few perks with the job.

There is an uncapped bonus scheme, 25 percent discount, a pension scheme and private healthcare.

Finally, there is a development programme for staff.

So if you want to apply, or find out more, you can visit the Stonegate recruitment website.
