Posh chairman sets ticket challenge to travelling City fans

-

COVENTRY City fans have been granted more tickets after selling out their initial allocation for Saturday’s play-off six pointer at Peterborough United.

The Sky Blues’ initial allocation of 1,305 tickets for Saturday’s away game against The Posh has sold out and an additional 783 tickets are being made available.

If those are sold, United have the capacity to make even more available to take City’s allocation to up to 4,000.

Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony has told Coventry fans that if they travel in numbers to the ABAX Stadium he’ll personally refund them £2 off their tickets out of his own pocket.

Sky Blues supporters are being charged £26 for a ticket for Saturday’s match. Some fans are unhappy that they are being charged £2 more than Wycombe Wanderers’ supporters were charged last weekend, prompting one to contact Mr MacAnthony directly via Twitter to complain, saying: “I really like @ DMAC102 and @theposhofficial, but £26 as a visiting Coventry fan for our fixture is a disgrace for third division football.

“Coincidentally, you only charged Wycombe fans £24 last weekend. Why are we exploited for being a big visiting club? Disappointing.”

The Posh chief, who is known for being very active and vocal on social media, responded with the challenge to the Sky Blue Army, saying: “We have category A & B games. You’re designated A.

“But if you guys sell 2.5k tickets (easy for you guys) I’ll personally pay the extra £2 per person. Thus making it £24 per tickets. Cheers.”

If City fans do rise to the challenge, the Posh owner will have to fork out £5,000.

City have been placed in the 2,500-capacity Motorpoint stand behind one of the goals at the London Road ground, normally used by home fans because of the size of the Sky Blues’ travelling support.

But the Posh have confirmed that they can accommodate up to 4,000 away supporters and will increase City’s allocation subject to demand.
