Pilgrim and Gilbert win Masters title
MIDLAND MASTERS Warwickshire star Adrian Pilgrim and Darren Griffin (Gloucestershire) proved once again they are virtually unbeatable at over-50 doubles level, by winning the title in the Midland Masters, at the Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton, with a final success over Steve Horton/Andy Trott.
Pilgrim also reached the semifinal of the over-50 singles event.
Di St Ledger, the defensive ace from Sutton Coldfield and Sheila King clinched the over-50 women’s doubles and St Ledger was also runner-up to Teresa Devaney in the over-60 women’s singles.
Second seeds Lee Norton and Jason Thompson reached the final of the over- 40 doubles, losing out to the top seeded combination of Neil Charles/James Sprackling.
Roy Norton/Terry Bateman were beaten in the over-70 doubles final by Barry Hill/Geoff Salter, while at over-80 level Mike Meredith reached the singles final, only to be beaten by Bateman, but won the doubles with Ramesh Bhalla.
WARWICKSHIRE JUNIORS Warwickshire made a great start to the season by winning three of their first four matches.
The Bears started by beating Worcestershire 7-3, followed by a 6-4 success over Gloucestershire.
A convincing 8-2 victory over Lancashire was followed by their only defeat to a strong Derbyshire side who won 8-2.
STRATFORD
Jason Rainey of Tanworth Taipans continued his excellent start to the season in the Stratford League, with a treble against Ashorne in a 6-4 victory.
League leaders Colebridge Pasties overcame Stratford C 7-3, with maximums from Bernard Oliver and Mike Credland.
Pete Barrow and Alex Boyd were both on top form for Stratford A, in their comfortable 8-2 success over Colebridge Bulldogs.
A strong Stratford B side of Kevin Taylor, Harry Azima and Michael Klein recorded a clean sweep over their D team, with the Shottery A trio of Gary Stewart, Stephen Foster and Graham Poole also imposing a whitewash against Veterans.
John Price and debutant Phil Paine were both unbeaten for Snitterfield, in an emphatic 9-1 win over Henley.
Henry Clarke led the way for JLM Kingfishers who overcame Blazing Paddles 8-2.
