City wait for Cup clash date at St Andrew’s

-

COVENTRY City’s second round FA Cup tie will not be played on the traditional Saturday afternoon at three o’clock.

The Sky Blues have been drawn at ‘home’ for the next round which clashes with Birmingham City’s scheduled Championship match with Millwall at St Andrew’s.

Mark Robins’ men have been drawn against fellow League One outfits in the form of either Ipswich Town or Lincoln City.

Lincoln and Ipswich drew 1-1 in their clash at the weekend, with a replay scheduled for next week to decide who will face the Sky Blues at the end of the month.

Ties will be played between Friday, November 29 and Monday, December 2, with the reward for a victory being a spot in the third round draw alongside clubs from the Championship and Premier League.

Coventry are yet to face either opponent in League One this season but they now face the prospect of back-toback matches against league leaders Ipswich at St Andrew’s, if the Tractor Boys win in Lincoln next week.

But whoever they face, the tie is likely to be played on Sunday, December 1.

“It will probably be on the

Sunday although it could be picked for a televised game,” said City chief executive Dave Boddy .

“But Birmignham will definitely play on the Saturday, as scheduled.” Asked whether it would be Blues’ preference for Coventry not to play on the Friday night so as to keep the pitch in pristine condition ahead of their Saturday game, Boddy said: “I don’t think it would be a pitch issue.

“I think it’s more whether they can get the staff, but I would say it’s more than likely to be on the Sunday.

“I think it will take two or three days to settle down and wait until they announce the TV games but the plan at this stage is that it would be on the Sunday, although we don’t know what time the kick-off would be yet.”
