Step back in time to town’s Victorian Christmas market

There will be an old fashioned fair and lots of market stalls at Warwick’s Victorian market

WARWICK’S much-loved Victorian Christmas market is returning once again this year.

Visitors can expect thrills from an old-fashioned fair and tons of market stalls selling crafts and festive gifts.

And Father Christmas himself will also be flying into town to switch on the lights with the Mayor of Warwick.

The whole event runs from 5pm to 9pm on Thursday, November 28, with the lights being turned on at 7pm.

People are also being encouraged to get into the 19th Century spirit with the annual competitio­n for the best dressed Victorian.

Winners in both the adult and child categories will be announced on stage at 7.30pm.

Hosted by Touch FM, the night will offer a packed programme full of festive entertainm­ent. Visitors will have the chance to meet real life reindeer at the Lord Leycester Hospital and dine out on street food.

Victorian fair rides will include a traditiona­l steam-powered carousel, a Ferris wheel and a helter skelter. And fire spinners, street entertaine­rs, ‘Victorian scallywags’ will also be on hand to keep guests’ spirits high. To keep with tradition, the Christmas Tree Festival will also be taking place in St Mary’s Church.

Free parking Warwick District Council’s off-street car parks are free from 3pm on Thursday, November 28.

Off-street car parks include West Rock, St Nicholas Park and St Mary’s Area 2, 3 and 4.

Limited parking is also available at Linen Street and a ‘Car Park Full’ sign will be displayed when no more spaces are available.

Barrack Street will be available from 5pm to 8pm. On-street parking will still be charged.

Councillor Alan Rhead, portfolio holder for environmen­t and business, said: “The Victorian Evening is a staple event in Warwick’s calendar which brings hundreds of people into the town, providing great atmosphere and helping to promote the local businesses.

“I would encourage everyone to arrive in plenty of time.”
