Park should not be used as a cash cow

-

THE spirit of Scrooge seems to have arrived early in Coventry with the council’s proposal to impose car parking charges on visitors to the War Memorial Park.

The park is a special place for many people. A haven of sanctuary from the hustle bustle of everyday life. Where a simple walk around the grounds provides much needed exercise for folk of all ages. Where we watch the seasons change and most importantly, can view the impressive monument to those who sacrificed so much during two world wars.

The park however is not easily accessible to all so many visit by car. Once there, children play, dogs and humans walk side by side and you see the more gentle welcoming side of society. A pity then the council of the forthcoming City of Culture plans a cynical raid on people’s finances when they already contribute to the upkeep of the park through their council taxes. The War Memorial Park has a unique heritage and deserves to be treated with dignity not as a cash cow.

A simple blood test could save your life

‘MOVEMBER’ is well and truly underway with many newly-sprouting moustaches! The main aim of the charity is to reduce premature death in men by 25% by 2030.

The early detection of prostate cancer – while it can still be cured – is a key part of this initiative. So, we encourage men at risk to have a simple blood test.

Your local Prostate Cancer Support Group will again be offering PSA testing to any man aged 45 and over. This will take place on Saturday, November 30, at St Finbarr’s Club, 303 Holbrook Lane, Coventry, between 10.45 am and 1pm.
