WOODEN YOU LOVE TO MAKE THIS CHARMING GLOWING CABIN?

-

This little cabin is easy to make and will bring some Christmas cheer for the holidays.

You’ll need sticks of different shapes and sizes so, next time you are out on a walk with your family, take a bag with you and pick a few up.

Choose different colours and textures of bark – knobbly sticks can look good on the roof.

All the sticks should be fairly straight so they sit next to one another fairly snugly. Don’t forget to give them a good wash before you start.

YOU WILL NEED:

A small cardboard box (ours measured 10cm x 12cm x 8cm) Twigs of different sizes and lengths PVA glue Scissors Glue spreader Paint in a dark colour A paint brush A battery-powered tea light (optional)

METHOD:

1. Unfold your cardboard box so it is flat, then ask an adult to help you cut a door and window.

2. Cover the sides of the box with a generous layer of PVA glue.

3. Snap sticks to a suitable length to fit the box and lay them side by side making sure they don’t stick out over the edges (see picture below). Choose some interesting sticks to frame the window and the door. We used thin twigs to cover the door, and a section of a wider twig to make a door knob.

4. Continue until the sides of your box are covered. Leave to dry completely.

5. Fold your box back up and glue the side to secure it.

6. Paint the inside of the box a dark colour. Leave to dry. 7. Fold the top of the box down half way to make a pitched roof. Glue to the side flaps to fix in place.

8. Spread the roof with a generous layer of PVA and cover with a line of sticks, making sure they slightly overhang the front of the house. Secure each with a small piece of sellotape until the glue is dry, if necessary.

9. Place a batterypowered tea light inside if you wish, for a warm glow (switch off when not in use).
