A Little detective work
ANOTHER day, another new luxury property development on the island of Saint Marie. Someone always seems to be clinking champagne to celebrate a corporate deal.
Although why anyone would want to live in the murder hotspot of the world beats me.
Steve Pemberton plays British developer Neil Henderson, whose daughter Tamsin (Chanel Cresswell) decides to leave the party early to take a nap.
No one in the history of this show has ever left a party halfway through and survived, so we know death is imminent and, sure enough, she’s found electrocuted in her hotel bathtub with the door locked from the inside. All evidence points towards suicide, but the team calls for re-enforcement from Manchester.
Enter Ralf Little, brilliantly charming and nerdy as new detective on the block DI Neville Parker.
He arrives reeling at the blazing sunshine, reaching for his inhaler and covering himself in factor 50.
In keeping with the spirit of the comedy drama, Neville proves to be another slightly gormless-looking, bumbling detective, who is actually a genius.
Noticing that the victim is wearing her nighttime mouthguard, Neville says:
“If you decided to end your life, would you be worried about the long term wear and tear of your teeth?”
And so, a murder investigation begins, with suspicion falling firmly on the victim’s dad Neil, his wife Joanne (Samantha Bond) and her partner Charlie (Thomas Varey).
Meanwhile, Neville struggles to settle in and hopes for a quick departure back to Blighty... but he’s not likely to escape paradise any time soon.
