MARK Robins has the opportunity to unleash new signing Ryan Giles when Coventry City entertain bottom-ofthe-league Bolton Wanderers today.

The versatile 20-year-old can play in a number of positions and fans are yet to see exactly where he will be deployed and how best the manager will use his blistering pace.

But wherever the Sky Blues boss decides to play him, he’s adamant that he’ll play a “fundamental” role between now and what’s shaping up to be an exciting end to the season.

“He’s a good player, there’s no doubt about it, and he becomes another part of the squad who will get himself into the team,” said Robins, confident that the left-sided player, who can play at left-back, wing-back, on the wing or as an attacking midfielder, will make a big impact at the club.

Giles has already shown he can make an impact in games, as City found to their cost when he went on as a second-half substitute for Shrewsbury Town before Christmas and promptly set up Town’s winner in the 2-1 away defeat.

Asked if fans can expect to see him in a more attacking role, given the fact that he already has Sam McCallum and

Brandon Mason battling for the left wing-back berth, he said: “We have brought him in because he’s powerful and quick.

“He’s young. Does he do everything right? Not yet. “Does he do other things right? Absolutely he does.

“Is he someone who can make a big difference to us in the final 17 games? Absolutely, that’s why he’s here.

“So for me, and the way I want us to play and approach games, he will be fundamental as long as he gets himself to the level and intensity that we work at, and that Wolves work at.

“He’s been on the bench in the Premier League for them and the ingredients are all there.

“I’m excited to work with him and I think he could help us do something really special for the rest of this season.”

As for the type of character Giles is, the manager said: “He’s a good lad.

“He’s funny, hungry and he’s an athlete. He’s someone who just looks ready to kick on and I am excited to have him.

“Along with the other players we have got, he just adds that other bit.

“And it was good to get another face in there because it just gives us an extra bit of edge, hopefully, for the rest of the season. But he has to fight because as we saw the other night, Brandon came in the other night and did really well.”
