Vardy makes Time to give McCallum some advice

-

LEICESTER City star Jamie Vardy has offered words of wisdom to Coventry City defender Sam McCallum.

McCallum, who was part of Vardy’s V9 academy, earned a move to Premier League outfit Norwich City in the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old has been with the Sky Blues for the best part of two years and after joining Norwich, he was immediately loaned back to help Mark Robins’ men achieve promotion to the Championship.

After completing his £3.5m move to Norwich, McCallum received a FaceTime call from V9 academy boss Vardy.

The youngster said to the Foxes talisman: “I see you guys on the TV, playing in the Premier League.

“Now, even when I’m playing in League One, towards the end of the game I’m getting tired, and I know I’m not doing the same things that I was at the start of the game. I feel I need to build some power and stamina up.” Vardy responded with some words of wisdom for his academy graduate.

“That will come with time and training,” said the former England frontman. “It is a big jump, I admit.

“I took a full season to get used to it. But once you are used to it, and you’re in that routine of the training sessions, to boost your power and your endurance, it gets so much easier.

“Then it’s just down to your own ability to keep it going.

“You’ve just got to keep doing what you’re doing, keep working hard, improving.

“And that shows why clubs have been looking, and why Norwich have now taken a chance.

“Keep knuckling down, and I’m sure you’ll progress further.”
