Callum’s top performer for legend Oggy

- By ANDY TURNER

WITH just ten games left to play most Coventry City fans have a good idea of their player of the season.

We all have our Sky Blues favourites, the players who we think have contributed and caught the eye the most over the course of a largely thrilling 2019/20 campaign.

But what about the professional view?

City legend Steve Ogrizovic has watched Mark Robins’ men as much as most hard core of the club’s fans this season going to virtually every game, home and away.

The FA Cup legend was part of Robins’s backroom staff up until his retirement at the end of last season.

Now part of BBC CWR’S matchday commentary team, bringing fans expert analysis throughout their title chasing season, Oggy has picked out his players of the season.

When fans were initially polled, midfielder Liam Walsh and Fankaty Dabo were neck and neck in a field that included Callum O’hare, Matty Godden and Marko Marosi.

However, two weeks on and there’s a clear leader as wingback Dabo has pulled ahead with 40 per cent of the votes compared to second placed Walsh with a 27 per cent share.

“I have read that a few people have put Liam Walsh and Fankaty Dabo as their player of the year but for me, personally, I’d actually probably go with Callum O’hare,” he said. “I just love the guy. I think he turns games. Every time he goes on he’s exciting.

“Whether he comes off the bench or starts, he’s a game changer and something happens all the time.

“You always expect something to happen. He scores goals and makes lots of goals. He’s just an exciting talent and, for me, there have been a lot of good performances from him.

“I don’t actually want to give it to a player who isn’t a Coventry player but he has impressed me that much, there’s no doubt about it.”

He added: “The other one who has impressed me is Jordan Shipley who I think has made really good strides.

“He’s scored goals and made goals from midfield, and he’s a young player who is getting better and better, and he’s a Coventry player as well.

“So Callum would be my first choice and Jordan second.”
