- By CLAIRE HARRISON News Reporter

SWIMMING pools across Nuneaton and Bedworth will open in just under a month.

The Pingles Leisure Centre in Nuneaton and Bedworth Leisure Centre were set to reopen their doors at the weekend as part of a phased reopening.

But it will be for gym use only initially.

It has been confirmed that the swimming pool facilities at both centres will not open until Saturday, August 22.

Joe Warren, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We’re very much looking forward to reopening the centres and welcoming back the local community. After being closed for nearly five months, this latest announcement from government is the news the leisure industry has been eagerly awaiting. Giving people the opportunity to resume activity and exercise in their leisure centre will go a long way to maintaining the good health of local communities.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the support we have received from customers during these unprecedented times, and we’re so grateful. Like many other industries, leisure has been greatly affected by the lockdown.

“Ensuring our colleagues and customers remain safe is our number one priority and we have carefully considered the strict measurements to ensure we adhere to the guidance.

“We will be contacting all customers directly over the coming days regarding the centres reopening. We look forward to welcoming everyone back and thanking them for their patience.”

Everyone Active also runs other leisure centres across the two towns on behalf of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

The Jubilee Sports Centre was set to reopen yesterday for group exercise classes only and during limited opening hours.

All other facilities at Jubilee and Etone Sports Centres will initially remain closed.

Councillor Ian Lloyd, cabinet member for arts and leisure at the Town

Hall, said”it is great news that we now have a decision from the government on when our leisure centres can reopen. I welcome the decision and am confident that our centres are doing all they can to adhere to the measures set out by the government around keeping their centres clean and safe for all”.

“Leisure centres are such an important part of our communities and I’m sure their reopening will be welcome news to many residents of the Borough. I appreciate that the phased reopening of swimming will be disappointing to some residents, but this is in the best interest of resident’s health and wellbeing,”
