SKY BLUES SEND BIG THANK YOU TO SUPPORTERS AS VAST MAJORITY DO NOT REQUEST SEASON-TICKET REFUND FOR CANCELLED FIXTURES

COVENTRY City have issued a “big thank you” to its supporters.

The club has announced on its website that around 85 per cent of season-ticket holders did not request a refund for the cancelled fixtures at the end of 2019/20.

City say they appreciate that these are unprecedented times and the impact of fans not requesting a refund for the five cancelled matches will be significant in helping the running of the club, and it is a fantastic gesture.

At the same time, the club says it totally understands the, just over, 15 per cent of season-ticket holders who did request the refund.

Coventry City chief executive Dave Boddy said: “It was right that we offered the refunds to supporters, and the decision whether to claim it or not is a very individual one and down to the circumstances of each supporter, which are changing during these difficult times.

“That said, for around 85 per cent of our season-ticket holders to choose not to claim a refund from the club is a remarkable gesture, and everyone at the club is deeply grateful for that.

“This is testament I think to the deep connection between the club and our supporters, and the enjoyment our fans had in watching the team last season as we won the League One title playing some scintillating football.

“We also know some of the fans that did claim the refund then donated that money to the fans’ season ticket fundraiser – again showing the bond between our supporters, and also the club. “With us not refunding a large amount of season tickets, it helps us to continue to be sustainable as a club through these difficult times with little income, and greatly assists Mark Robins and his team in preparing for the season ahead.”

■ Former Coventry City winger Dexter Walters has rejoined non-league Tamworth.

The exciting wideman was released by the Sky Blues at the end of last season having originally joined the club from the Lambs in 2018.

Walters went on to make one appearance for Coventry following his switch to the Championship club when he figured in an EFL Trophy clash against Forest Green Rovers.

He was a regular fixture in the club’s Under-23s side, but last season spent his time on loan at Leamington where he played 14 games.

Speaking about his move back to Tamworth Walters said: “I am really happy to be back.

“There’s a lot of unfinished business regarding how the season was cut short. Hopefully we can win the league again.”

The Lambs have invested in some excellent signings so far this summer with experienced strikers Lindon Meikle and Aaron O’connor among those to sign up.

With us not refunding a large amount of season tickets, it helps us to continue to be sustainable as a club.
