BACK TO THE 90s
THE 1990s - what a decade.
Germany was reunified, we all made some new FRIENDS and towards the end ‘millennium madness’ had us all thinking the apocalypse was coming.
We also saw some big changes at home right here in Coventry. From significant city centre construction to visits from dignitaries, it was a busy time.
We got up to protests outside of the iconic cathedral, built two shopping centres and even hosted Nelson Mandela.
We took a deep dive into the Coventry Telegraph archives to get a glimpse of what life was like in the 1990s.
You may spot someone you know or a familiar famous face, and it might just take you back to that time in history.
Pictured is Henley College’s new Learning
Resources Centre. Coventry Telegraph reported at the time that it “combines the functions of a library and a computer workroom - is part of a £1million investment programme at the college in Henley Road.
“As well as including an extensive traditional book library, it provides audio visual and CD ROM facilities, and extensive computer networks. The new facility was opened by Sir William Stubbs, chief executive of Coventry based Further Education Funding Council, the government body which finances further education colleges.”
Much like we are seeing with the current city centre regeneration project, the 1990s saw a lot of major construction.
West Orchards shopping centre and Cathedral Lanes were both built.
For many it will feel like the 1990s was not long ago, but from the pictures it is clear to see just how much change there has been in Coventry.
