Robins: We’re on the right track

BOSS EXPLAINS WHY CITY FANS SHOULD NOT BE CONCERNED BY WINLESS START TO PRE-SEASON

COVENTRY City have taken slightly longer to get going this summer due to Mark Robins’ strong desire to play his football the right way.

That is what the manager himself has said when asked about the Sky Blues’ winless start to their pre-season preparation by BBC CWR, something fans desperate to see the Sky Blues thrive in the Championship should not be concerned about.

Robins’ promotion-winning side have started their build-up for the 2020-21 campaign with back-to-back defeats against Rangers and Swindon Town before Tuesday afternoon’s 1-1 draw with Wolves Under-23s.

But City players have still looked sharp for periods, particularly the likes of Callum O’hare, Ryan Giles and Gustavo Hamer who have proven to be the stars of the summer.

“There is a lot of tactical work going on and there have been changes to our personnel and with that come changes to how we want to play,” said Robins.

“It would be much, much easier if we wanted to get the ball out of our feet and hit it in behind and run. That is much easier to coach but obviously we do not want to do that, we are playing a certain way and it takes time.

“We have looked quite sharp at times, especially without the ball in terms of movement but we know where we need to get to.” He continued: “It has been difficult but we have tried to manage the pandemic the best we can too – but that has been the same for most teams.

“We’re only just finding out what it is like to play at an empty

We have looked quite sharp at times, especially without the ball in terms of movement but we know where we need to get to.
