Making a difference to your community
MAGISTRATES are a very important part of the justice system in England and Wales. They are people from all walks of life who give their time voluntarily to make a positive difference to their communities, and more are needed.
Locally across the West Midlands and Warwickshire we are seeking up to 45 new Magistrates to join the Judiciary and serve their local community.
Over 90% of criminal matters are dealt with by Magistrates sitting in local courts.
If you are aged 18-65 with a commitment to ensuring justice in your local community, we want to hear from you.
Applications to become a Magistrate in the West Midlands and Warwickshire open on 1st September and close on 30 September 2020. For more information please visit www.direct.gov.uk/ magistrates.

Please don’t abuse disabled parking
FOLLOWING your recent references to parking places, I emphasise the importance of observing disabled parking bays.
Most people act sensibly, but I have occasionally found disabled bays blocked by cars used by able-bodied drivers. Such selfishness is unfitting in such a caring city as Coventry.

Remembering the art of political insult
MICHELLE Obama called Trump “the wrong President for our country.” This brings to mind the art of the political insult. Churchill said Attlee “was a modest man with much to be modest about.” Healey said being opposed by Howe was “like being savaged by a dead sheep.”
