WHAT’S THAT NOISE?

RESIDENTS BAFFLED BY CONSTANT HIGH-PITCHED HUMMING SOUND IN THEIR BLOCK OF FLATS IN CITY

- > DANNY THOMPSON REPORTS:

RESIDENTS at a Coventry block of flats are at their wits end because of a constant high-pitched humming sound in their building.

Those living at William Batchelor House, on Leicester Row, near Coventry Canal Basin, have tried in vain to locate the source of the sound, but all searches have so far proved fruitless.

The hum is said to be loud enough it can even be heard when residents close their windows.

Julie Cuttiford has lived at the block for five years and has been baffled by the sound, along with her neighbours.

She said: “The noise bounces off the building – this high pitched noise. We can hear it even with our windows closed, but you hear it even more when your windows are open.

“It’s just this constant sound while you’re trying to watch TV. Everyone is wondering what it is.

“We thought maybe it was some work being done but it is constant so it can’t be.

“It’s been going on for weeks. Me and my husband have tried looking in all different areas of the building but to no avail.”

It isn’t the first time the city has been subject to unexplained noises.

Earlier this year Coventry residents took to social media to discuss a loud noise which no one could quite identify. Many said their homes and windows were shaken. The plot thickened when doorstep camera footage showed the noise was accompanied by a bright flash of light in the sky - appearing to be an explosion of sorts.

It is believed the noise was caused by an asteroid hitting the earth’s atmosphere.
