SIX men from the Coventry area have received Covid fines after travelling to Wales during lockdown.

The group were stopped by Welsh officers after driving to the Brecon Beacons to use scrambler bikes.

Dyfed-powys, South Wales and Gwent Police, along with Brecon Beacons National Park wardens, joined forces on Sunday, February 28 to respond to concerns from the community around the use of quad bikes.

With support from Special Constables, the operation, which targets illegal off-roaders, saw 29 officers and staff cover land around Trefil Quarry.

Following the Coventry group being stopped and issued fixedpenalty notices for travelling more than 100 miles, officers have urged people to remain at home.

Inspector Gwyndaf Bowen, of Dyfed Powys Police, said: “Operation Rover took place in response to community concerns regarding quad bikes.

“Using criminal, road traffic and public health regulations, we issued both advice to members of the public and prosecutions to those found breaking the law.”

The Lifestyle team at Priors House, led by Coral Arrowsmith, organises a wealth of activities each day for residents, from quizzes and virtual exercise sessions to pamper sessions, virtual church services and cuddles with the home’s guinea pigs. Daily video calls with family are always top of the agenda.

The team work hard to make each day rich and rewarding. The cello recitals that residents enjoyed before lockdown now happen online. In fact, the daughter of one resident has been inspired to deliver her own virtual performances. The team has created a songbook for the resident, with pictures of her enjoying her daughter’s music on a laptop.

When a couple of gentlemen were missing their regular pub outing, the pub was brought to them, with dominoes and a pint in the home’s café. The lifestyle team spend one-to-one time with residents who are being nursed in bed, and have happily become hairdressers during lockdown so that residents can continue to look their best.

As a relative says, “There’s always something exciting going on. Coral and the team create a caring and fun atmosphere which keeps residents happy and their minds busy.”
