Sky Blues’ ace picks up the pace as return looms
MATTY Godden will step up his much anticipated Coventry City return to action with a full week of training at Ryton.
Sky Blues boss Mark Robins had toyed with the idea of his star striker getting valuable match minutes in his legs in yesterday’s scheduled Under-23s game at Sheffield United, but the player was not involved in the end.
Godden has been back in full training for the last fortnight for the first time since breaking down with a recurring foot injury at Millwall on January 2, a frustrating injury that has seen him miss the last 13 games, having already sat out nine in the first half of the season with the same problem.
The 29-year-old was back in the matchday mix on Saturday when Mark Robins’ men secured a valuable 1-0 victory over Derby County.
The City boss has used first team games to ease returning key players back into his side from the bench, but was unable to get Godden on the pitch in a tight game,
However, the mere fact that his talismanic striker was in the squad gave everyone a lift. Robins said: “It did. It was difficult to get him on. I always had it in my mind if the game gave me that, but it didn’t.
Having decided not to feature in the 23s, Godden will now have another full week of training under his belt, and was expected to be among the subs for Saturday’s now-cancelled trip to relegation rivals Rotherham United.
ONE of the downsides of the internet are trolls. They are horrible cowards who should be accountable.
I felt sorry for BBC Sport’s rugby interviewer Sonja Mclaughlan, pictured, who was bombarded with abuse after her excellent interview with the England rugby captain Owen Farrell.
She had asked some tough and necessary questions.
But why did she take to Twitter to discuss it and reveal she had been in tears? That just encourages the cowards and crackpots even more.
I never read the stuff about myself because you need your confidence to present and at the end of the day the only person whose views matter is the person who hands out and decides your job.
I survived 50-plus years of abuse!
