Fun and frolics as raunchy show comes to Cov’s Festival Gardens

- By DANNY THOMPSON

FROM Sydney Harbour to Coventry, Bernie Dieter’s Club Kabarett comes to the City of Culture this month.

The German cabaret star is fresh from a sellout season in Sydney, and will start a monthlong residency at Assembly Festival Gardens in the Queen of Flanders tent from May 11.

The close of Coventry’s year as City of Culture just got a whole lot raunchier thanks to the multiaward-winning kabarett superstar Bernie Dieter, who is bringing her infamous troupe of bombastic Bohemians to the city. Attendees can expect the darkest, funniest and most debauched kabarett show this side of Berlin!

A gin soaked, Weimarpunk jazz band soundtracks a hazy, immersive night of dangerously funny kabarett, gender-bending circus and fire-breathing sideshow at its most inappropriate, provocative and hilarious best.

An electrifying cross between Lady Gaga, Marlene Dietrich and Frank-n-futer in sequins, Dieter has cemented herself as one of the standout kabarett artists of her generation, blending dangerously funny original songs, sequins and a deviant eye for debauchery and mayhem.

Bernie Dieter said: “Like the notorious kabarett clubs of Weimar Germany, this show is the ultimate party at the end of the world, where my family of misfits and I stick a defiant middle finger up at the past 2 years and celebrate freedom and difference in all its forms. Come and play!”

Time Out branded the show “deliciously debaucherous, salacious Spiegeltent spectacular,” while Fest Magazine, UK said: “Wickedly funny, deliciously defiant punk cabaret. This is a rallying cry from the raucous depths of cabaret. All you can do is cheer.” Australian’s Weekend Notes said: “Bernie is a cheeky, sexy libertine who brings her Weimar punk Kabarett to tear down the house with laughter and a whole lot of sexual titillation. Be amazed, be appalled, and be blown away. Magnificent”.
