Concern over missing acts in Cov due to no late trains

BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2022 in Coventry revellers may miss Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles as there will be no late trains.

West Midlands Railway has confirmed that no extra services will be put on between Coventry and Nuneaton.

Some revellers took to Twitter with concerns that they may miss the final acts on the Saturday and Sunday because there are no late trains that link the city with Nuneaton, Bedworth and Bermuda.

We put these concerns to West Midlands Railway and asked if any special later services would be put in place during the weekend to help accommodate those going to the huge festival at War Memorial Park later this month.

A spokesman said that there will be no extra late trains added to the timetable.

However, the number of carriages on the scheduled trains will be increased by 50 per cent - from two to three throughout the day to help provide additional capacity.

A West Midlands Railway spokesperson said: “We are introducing additional carriages on our services to provide additional capacity during this event.

“Services are expected to be busy so passengers are advised to plan their journeys carefully and consider alternative transport if travelling late in the evening.”

On Saturday (May 28), the last train to Nuneaton is at 9.40pm and it is not direct. People will have to travel to Birmingham New Street and then get another train. This will arrive at Nuneaton at 10.50pm. On Sunday, May 29, the last train again is 9.40pm and this is not a direct service. A change will be needed at Birmingham New Street.

The final train from Coventry to Birmingham New Street on Saturday is 11.27pm, arriving at the station at 12.03am.

On Sunday, the final train is at 11.57pm and will arrive at New Street at 12.19am.
