Big Weekend: How to get there and where to park

RADIO 1’s Big Weekend 2022 is just weeks away and up to 80,000 people are expected at Coventry’s War Memorial Park.

They won’t just be coming from the city and surroundin­g areas, but from across the country as the radio station stages its first public Big Weekend event since the pandemic.

It will run from Friday, May 27 until Sunday, May 29 with some of the biggest names in music, such as Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris, Sam Fender and Coventry’s very own Pa Salieu set to hit the stage.

For those lucky enough to have got tickets, they will now be planning on how to get to the park, so we have compiled a list of all of the must-know travel news.

Here is everything you need to know about how to get to the park.

Parking: There is no onsite parking available. For accessibil­ity requiremen­ts on Friday, people can find out more informatio­n on Radio 1’s accessibil­ity page

Park & Ride: If you require them, parking and Park & Ride tickets are available from the Coventry Council website, where you can find costs and informatio­n on how to book.

Park & Walk: Nominated car parks for parking and walking Coventry Rail Station 1 - Distance 1.3km

Coventry Rail Station 2 - Distance 1.5km Barracks - Distance 1.8km Salt Lane - Distance 2km Butts College /Earlsdon Park - Distance 2.1km

Drop off and pick up: For visitors to the event being dropped off and collected by car, Central Six Shopping Centre, Warwick Road, close to Coventry Ring Road Junction 6 is being recommende­d. It is 15 minutes walk from the event entrance and will be accessible by car when road closures are in place. Use postcode CV3 6TA.

By Train: Coventry rail station 1.2km walk, Canley Station 2.5km.

Cycling: For visitors arriving on their own cycles, secure cycle parking will be available by the tennis courts, close to the event entrance.

On Foot: War Memorial Park is 1.4 miles from the city centre (approximat­ely half hour walk).

Food and drink will be available on the site, with up to 40 outlets selling everything from street food to sweets.
