Boss knows value of superb staff in finding winning formula

- ANDY TURNER

MARK Robins delighted Coventry City fans when he agreed to a new contract extension at the club.

Having done a remarkable job over the last five years, dragging the Sky Blues back from the depths of League Two to become a competitive top half Championship side, the 52-year-old provides managerial quality and stability for the club as it attempts to build, however long it takes, for a promotion push back to the Premier League.

The news of his extended deal was unanimously welcomed by City supporters, many of whom were quick to ask the legitimate question, ‘What about Adi Viveash? What about Dennis Lawrence?’

Viveash, certainly, has been a key part of the club’s rise up the divisions, offering expert coaching and tactical nous on the training ground and at Robin’s side during matches – his trusty assistant and right-hand man.

They’re an interesting managerial marriage; Robins the level-headed man manager and Viveash the no-nonsense and serious character with a gruff exterior whose expertise is coaching and getting the best out of talented players. They’re a classic good cop, bad cop combination and it works, while Lawrence is a more laid back, studious and thoughtful voice of reason.

The former assistant to Roberto Martinez at Wigan and Everton only joined the club last summer but has also proved to be a talented and valuable member of the backroom staff.

There’s been no news of their contract situations as yet, but rest assured there is nothing to worry about.

Robins knows the value of his small but brilliant staff and will ensure they’re looked after to ensure City’s managerial winning formula continues, so don’t be surprised if there’s not some more reassuring contract news sooner rather than later.
