Home Economics should be taught at school again

-

CONSERVATIVE MP Lee Anderson stated that people can have a cheap meal for 30p. Who is he kidding?

He also said people can’t cook, or won’t cook, well who is to blame for that one.

This all goes back to basic education and schooling.

When I was at my secondary school which was an all girls school, we had fantastic teachers.

They taught us how to cook and prepare meals, we did not have calculators to work things out we used our brains. My schooling left me with a sense of respect, and my teachers were there to help us and we could ask anything, and would be given an answer.

I left school with a good standard of education. I was given a prize for five years never absent never late, which also was good training for the working world.

So on leaving school I was able to cook, turn up for work on time and was also taught about washing and ironing, and many other skills.

So when I hear or read about an MP harping on about cooking, ask him why his government chums upset the education system? They were the ones cutting out certain lessons.

Get back to sorting out the school planning and put back Home Economics on the school curriculum. I worked in education, in a primary school, and we used to do basic simple food things with the children which they enjoyed.

It may be well for the government to want academics, but we also want people to be able to do other things. S.camwell, Coventry.

Sunny smiles

WHAT an amazing carnival atmosphere in Coventry at the weekend to celebrate the end of our City of Culture year.

And even the sun shone brightly for us making it a great day for all. P. Lewis, Coventry.
