Man arrested over alleged city centre attack
48-YEAR-OLD FOUND UNCONSCIOUS BUT BECAME AGGRESSIVE AS HE WAS BEING TREATED BY MEDICS
A 48-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on suspicion of assault on Wednesday (June 22) after he allegedly attacked a member of the public and assaulted two police officers in the city centre.
West Midlands Police officers were on patrol at around
4.30pm on Wednesday when they were alerted to an incident on The Burges.
They found the man unconscious on the floor and as he was being treated by paramedics, became aggressive, police revealed.
After his arrest, he was taken to hospital to be checked over.
The man was later de-arrested but police enquiries are continuing. The force are now urging anyone with information to contact them.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “Officers on patrol were alerted by a member of the public to an incident in The Burges, Coventry, at around 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday). They attended and found a man unconscious on the ground. As he was being treated by paramedics he became aggressive and was restrained by officers. “A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and taken to hospital to be checked over. He was later de-arrested but enquiries are continuing.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 4.20pm to Burges, Coventry, following reports of an unconscious man. One ambulance attended.
“During assessment, the man became aggressive and uncooperative but, with help from police colleagues, the ambulance crew were able to safely convey him to hospital for further care.”
Large crowds gathered at the scene as officers and ambulance crews moved in. Coventry Police tweeted at the time: “A man was detained by officers in #Coventry having allegedly assaulted a member of public.
“He then assaulted two police staff and was arrested. There was no issue with youngsters and NO weapons involved.”
