Frustration as 12 roads set to close in July

- By MORGAN JOHNSON

WARWICK residents have reacted with dismay after plans for road closures were revealed.

Starting next month, Warwick will be hit with twelve road closures every Sunday.

It comes after Warwick Town Council was informed by Warwickshire County Council of the upcoming plans. The closures will include major roads and residential.

Diversion details have not yet been revealed as the Town Council is awaiting more information from WCC. But, routes will be affected from July 3, 2022, until July 31, 2022.

Here is a list of the closures: St Johns Road - July 3. Coventry Road - July 3. Banbury Road - July

10. Myton Road - July 10. Jury Street - July 17. High Street - July

17. Castle Hill - July 17. Portobello Bridge - July 24. Emscote Road July 24. Saltisford (North Rock) July 24. Northgate - July 24. Priory Road - July 31.

The news was shared to Warwick Town Council’s Facebook page where it said: “Further information will be available on our website once received from Warwickshire County Council.”

But residents are not happy about all the plans. Philip John Moore commented on the post: “This is madness. Is anyone in the WDC totting up how much additional air pollution these road closures are causing and the effect this is having on people’s health locally?”

Samantha Nevin said: “Oh great - how am I meant to get to work?” John Smith added: “Don’t you think we’ve had enough of road closures.”

And Maria Astles said: “Trains on strike, British Airways voting to strike and chaos at the airports and now more road closures. Think a staycation in my own house will be happening this year.”
