- By PETE WARRINGTON

NUNEATON and Bedworth Swimming Club (NBSC) is celebrating after a sensational start to the new season.

It started with the Sports Forum gala for swimmers aged between nine and 13 where the club competed against a series of local clubs and NSBC won the overall title.

One week later the club took part in the Junior League Final, having qualified for the first time since 2015 and for the first time in the club’s history NBSC won the final by a mere onepoint margin after victory in the very last race of the final.

A club spokesperson said the success had continued with more medals at the Coventry and District open meet over the weekend.

“We sent swimmers from junior to senior, with some racing for the first time, to some seasoned athletes racing hard during a big training phase.

“We excelled all weekend with huge personal best times coming thick and fast, and we took more medals that we ever have

at this event. The highlights of this event being Evie Hands and Dominic Simpson taking the 200FC senior titles and with that they were both awarded the Thomson Trust trophy for their efforts.” Unsurprisingly the club success has led to a number of club swimmers being selected for county

and national programmes. The spokesperson added: “As the selections start we are delighted that Eva French has secured a place on the British Para-swimming Podium Potential programme.

“We have also placed Rocco Murphy and Dilanas Satavicius on to the West Midlands Regional Pathway programme.

“Selections for the Warwickshire County Pathway has seen our biggest ever selection with nine swimmers. Kais Al Hijazi, Jacson Crabb, Harry Hayward, Ava Hands, Lois Ward,

Amelie Bruntlett, Ethan Ashton, Heath Murphy and Matthew Vega Flores will all be enjoying face-to-face training days over the coming 12 months with selected swimmers from other Warwickshire clubs.

“On Sunday (October 2) there were two swimmers selected to race for Warwickshire at the Inter Counties Championships in Sheffield.

“Erin Johnson and Thomas Hudson both embraced their selections and performed brilliantly for the county, with Warwickshire being promoted to Division 1.”
