HOW THEY RATED

With Andy Turner

-

STARTING FORMATION: 3-4-1-2 BEN WILSON: For all of Burnley’s ball retention and seven shots in the opening 30 minutes, the City keeper didn’t have a great deal to do as the Clarets struggled to find the target. Well beaten by a precise, angled finish from Tella. Distributed the ball well enough. 6.5 CALLUM DOYLE: Picked up where he left off in recent games, defending well for the most part against a free flowing Burnley side who were a real threat down the flanks. 6.5

KYLE MCFADZEAN: Needed to be on top of his game against a fluid and mobile front three but stood strong and aggressive at the back, heading and blocking everything that came his way. JONATHAN PANZO: Strong in possession and the tackle, the Forest loan defender was a goal threat from set-pieces and almost scored from a corner when he headed onto the bar. 7 FANKATY DABO: Lively and energetic but forced to play deep in what looked a back five for long periods when City were forced to defend in numbers. Enjoyed a good battle with wide man Anass Zaroury and pal Ian Maatsen. 6.5 BEN SHEAF: Tackled well and covered acres of ground doing the dirty work. Worked tirelessly and made decent use of the ball when he had it. 6 JAMIE ALLEN: Provided bags of energy as usual in a tough first half when City had to run, fight and scrap to win back the ball. Ran himself ragged on a difficult day for the Sky Blues who sorely missed Hamer’s quality against top opposition. 6 JAKE BIDWELL: Read the danger well and kept close tabs on right-back Vitinho. Provided plenty of physicality and took a no-nonsense approach to defending. Good outlet when City finally started to attack more after the hour. 6.5 KASEY PALMER: Pressed and pushed in a hard working shift and was a good outlet on the counter attack. Displayed lovely close control at times to get out of tight areas. Replaced on the hour for fresh legs and a change of formation. 7.5 TYLER WALKER: Making only his second league start of the season ahead of Matty Godden, the striker helped defend from the front and worked hard throughout. Through on goal on two occasions, the first he was brought down and the second he stretched and failed to connect with a Dabo pass. 5.5 VIKTOR GYOKERES: Put himself about well in a frustrating game for the Swede as Burnley dominated much of the possession, but stretched the opposition on the few occasions when the right balls were played into him in a difficult game.

6 SUBSTITUTES MATTY GODDEN (60 mins, for Walker):

Helped ask more questions of Burnley’s central defensive pair with his movement as City switched to a front three. Headed wide from a late chance. 6 JOSH ECCLES (60 mins, for Doyle): Pitched in as a holding midfielder, acquitted himself well. 6 MICHAEL ROSE (60 mins, for Mcfadzean): Slotted into a back four alongside Panzo as City switched formation to become more of an attacking threat. Defended well. 6 FABIO TAVARES (60 mins, for Palmer): Made an immediate impact, looking confident and determined to take on his opponents, putting in a lovely ball to the box on once occasion, only for no-one to read the pass. 6

TODD KANE (85mins, for Dabo): Almost scored with his first touch when a corner fell loose to him on the edge of the box, but he put it wide. 5
