Boss is yet again linked with vacant role with Baggies
COVENTRY City boss Mark Robins has once again been touted as a possible contender for the latest Championship vacancy.
The Sky Blues boss was last week reported to be on Middlesbrough’s radar following the sacking of Chris Wilder two days after Boro lost 1-0 at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Robins’ name then cropped up again on Monday after West Bromwich Albion parted company with Steve Bruce, relieving the former Newcastle and Aston Villa manager of his duties after just eight months in charge, and becoming the 16th managerial change in the second tier since the end of last season.
Rumours ramped up, with some even suggesting on social media that Coventry’s manager had been given permission to speak to the Baggies’ hierarchy about the job at The Hawthorns.
But the Coventry Telegraph understands that West Brom have not made any contact with the Sky Blues and are believed to be currently looking elsewhere for a replacement for 61-year-old Bruce.
Bruce was sacked by Albion on Monday morning after a 0-0 draw with Luton Town on Saturday. They’ve managed only one win all season and find themselves third bottom of the Championship table.
Bookmakers have already started naming their favourites to replace the Manchester United legend. Chris Wilder and Roy Keane have been backed at 4/1 by Sky Bet to fill the vacancy at The Hawthorns, and Sky Blues’ Robins is also on the list.
Robins has been tipped at 14/1 to make the switch to Albion, with Rob Edwards (12/1), Scott Parker (8/1) and Sean Dyche (6/1) above him.
The Coventry boss was mentioned as a candidate for the Albion job earlier this year following Valerien Ismael’s departure.
