New look stores opened in city by well known Coventry family

- By CLAIRE HARRISON News Reporter

TWO new-look Costcutter stores have been opened in Coventry by some very familiar faces.

The Cheema family, who are well-known across the city, have returned their two stores - Malcolm’s Elm Tree Avenue and Malcolm’s Texaco Forecourt Tile Hill to the Costcutter brand.

The family, who have been faces in the community for four decades, say they now plan to completely modernise Malcolm’s Elm Tree Avenue store as well as taking what has been described as a ‘fresh and innovative’ approach to Malcolm’s Tile Hill Filling Station store.

Malcolm Cheema, who won a lifetime achievement award, first started the family business with his wife Baljit. Now three generations of the Cheema family work together, including son Pinda and his wife Mandy, together with son Paul and his wife Davinder.

“We’re delighted to be coming home to Costcutter and we are excited for the future,” said Paul Cheema.

“As part of the revamps of both stores, we are looking forward to offering our customers a ‘store within a store’ concept where we will have the fantastic Bargain Booze brand in store.

“Bargain Booze is renowned as the leading off licence offer in the UK with its wide range of artisan beers, wines and spirits giving

great value. We know our existing customers are tremendously excited by this opportunity, and we hope we might attract some new customers too.”

Mike Hollis, Retail Director at Bestway Retail added: “We’re delighted that Malcolm’s family stores are returning to us at Costcutter. The Cheema family is highly entrepreneurial, and we all wish them every success as we work together for success in the future - here’s to the next 20 years”
