I don’t want to do my shopping online

-

SEEING as there are not many shops in our city centre, we are told try online.

So it was a quiet afternoon and I had a few items to get for gifts so decided to go online.

My first port of call was Boots to which I had to phone the switchboard to go through to the ordering Dept.

Having waited two hours to get my call answered the lady said we have a problem with our computer system can we call you back.

Then on contacting another company they also had problems, and asked me to email them.

So what is the point of having all this online business if it fails. And quite often.

Why cannot we get back to going into a store and paying over the counter and returning home satisfied knowing you have bought what you wanted.

Political chaos

THE way things are going at the moment, by this time next year, you’ll never be more than 6ft away from a former Chancellor of the Exchequer.

OCTOBER 19, 1973: A squad of about 80 pickets were on duty outside the deserted Norton Villiers Triumph plant in Meriden. The men assembled in force outside the factory’s three main gates as soon as the works closed for the weekend. Their aim is to baulk any management attempt to regain possession of the plant which has been in the hands of its employees for the past three days. The Meriden siege, as some workers are calling it, began after NVT management announced that it was laying off 1,500 workers. The assembly track was also silent but the workers were keeping their spirits up by playing bingo, dominoes and darts.
