We need more Bulldog spirit

-

THE concerns of the general public are understandable. However, I believe calls for a General Election, at this time, are misguided and opposition leaders should be ashamed for stirring feelings, since their knowledge makes them aware of the effect of such a decision.

Parliament has to be dissolved 25 days before polling day. This country at this time cannot afford not to be governed for a period in excess of 25 days. Imagine the impending chaos.

With regard to the expressed concerns “the public not having voted for Rishi Sunak”, surely, we vote for a party not the person. The person we vote for represents the party and we hope collectively they will do the right thing by us.

What we need at this difficult time is a little more of the British Buldog spirit. Not an election.

Dangers ahead

I HAVE long argued against the idea of carbon forced global warming, I do accept that population growth and urbanisation has caused temperature rises.

From less than 2 billion in 1900, the world’s population has grown and will soon reach 8 billion.

Megacities such as Shanghai have their own micro climates. Urban

Heat island effect (UHI), can be experienced in UK cities when one drives from the cool suburbs to the warmer city centres.

The effect is most pronounced in winter and at night, when concrete slowly releases heat trapped during the day.

A 2018 Met Office Report on climate confirmed this when it showed that the UK’S coldest winter nights had warmed by an average of 1.7 C since 1961 but the hottest average summer days had warmed by only 0.8 C.

What may surprise readers is that modern climate science rejects the idea that UHI has had any effect on global temperature rises. If it has, they argue, it is a statistically insignificant effect.

Climate science dictates only carbon emissions effect global temperatures. The effect of an extra 6 billion people on the planet is dismissed.

It is impossible to debate with a closed mind. Stop Oil, Climate Extremists, the BBC and all the others who have promoted climate catastrophe have won.

The result will be the gradual de-industrialisation of Europe. JLR and Mercedes may still produce cars in 20 years time, but not in Britain or Europe. Asia will continue to use oil, gas and coal and so will continue to prosper.

We in the UK and Europe will not. We should all snuggle up together. In the cold winters nights of net zero to come, UHI may be all we have left to keep ourselves warm. M.judge,

Coventry.

‘Spare’ copies

‘SPARE’ is an apt title for The Duke of Sussex’s forthcoming memoir, as I’m sure that there will be plenty of ‘spare’ copies appearing in bargain bins all over Britain quite soon.
