ROBINS OFFERS BIG HINT OVER VETERAN DEFENDER’S FUTURE AFTER GREAT HOME

- By ANDY TURNER Sky Blues Reporter

IT’S fair to say that Kyle Mcfadzean just gets better and better with every passing year at Coventry City.

The Sky Blues centre-back (right) had an outstanding season last term and has continued to enjoy arguably the form of his career in the current campaign. Set to turn 36 in February and one of 11 players who will be out of contract in the summer, Mcfadzean maintains that his fitness is not an issue, clearly hoping to extend his stay into a fifth year.

And manager Mark Robins dropped a huge hint after his latest man of the match performance in Saturday’s 2-0 win over QPR that his stand-in skipper will be rewarded with a new deal come the end of the season.

Commenting on his impressive display at the weekend, Robins said: “Absolutely outstanding and hopefully he’ll keep doing that.”

Asked if the defender is going the right way to earning a new contract, he said reassuringly: “He’ll be fine. I think he’s just unbelievable. He’s evergreen isn’t he and as long as he keeps going he’s got a place here, that’s for sure.”

Mcfadzean, meanwhile, who has been a fine stand-in captain for Liam Kelly over the last year or so while the midfielder has been injured, said: “I feel really good, as good as anything at the moment and I train every day and don’t miss any days off. I know my body and I know I can still do it.

“We have a really good bunch of players too, which helps me a lot because I love playing with them, especially the younger ones beside me. Credit to the staff they are keeping me going.”
