Just Stop Oil have already won battle

-

I DON’T know why Just Stop Oil protesters are still so intent on annoying the public with their antics: they don’t need to. They’ve won.

Boris Johnson and Kier Starmer may not have been with those crazy activists hanging from a gantry on the M25, but they may just as well have been.

The policies of net zero which these politicians both support will create the de-industrialised society which Just Stop Oil craves.

I had hoped Rishi Sunak would stand firm, but he too has succumbed to pressure and joined the madness. It’s now just a matter of time before the industrial economy collapses.

Pundits in the US oil industry argue that the current lack of exploration and development of new oil fields will cause the price of oil to rise sharply towards the end of the decade.

There’s plenty of oil but the industry’s lack of confidence in Government energy policies means there’s no incentive to develop new prospects. Existing oil fields will be run dry causing shortages which in turn will cause the global oil price to rise.

If US and European net zero policies are still pursued, as promised, then those oil shortages will become a permanent feature of the Western economy. Hence, the inevitable collapse of the oil based economy.

So, regardless of any further Government actions, Just Stop Oil’s goals will be achieved, starting around 2030.

An escalation of the Ukrainian war would see those goals achieved even sooner.

I realise this is not the most uplifting of letters but may I still wish all Coventry Telegraph readers and staff a happy Christmas. I know it may be a bit cold this Christmas. My advice is this: turn on the heating, get out the mince pies and make yourself a hot toddy. Enjoy the warmth of Christmas. Happy Christmas everyone.

Godiva Festival is a real summer treat

I’M very glad our wonderful Godiva Festival is back next year in its usual summer slot.

I know you can never tell what the British weather is going to do but the festival is defintely a real summer treat in Coventry.
