Tyler and Kyle still struggling ahead of game

-

COVENTRY City have mixed injury news as Mark Robins looks to get his players back to winning ways at the CBS Arena.

The Sky Blues have secured their short-term future at the Mike Ashley-owned stadium and entertain Swansea City this Saturday after a 1-0 defeat at Reading on the resumption of the Championship campaign, following the four week break for the World Cup.

The good news is that a number of players – Martyn Waghorn, Kasey Palmer, Michael Rose and Fankaty Dabo – have used the enforced break in the season to get themselves fit and back into contention with all but Dabo involved last weekend. The not-so-good news is that Kyle Mcfadzean and Tyler Walker are struggling with on-going injury issues. Here’s a list of who is currently out and when we can expect them to report back for duty.

TYLER WALKER

The striker had some time out earlier in the season with a cruciate knee ligament tear rather than a full rupture which would have required surgery and a lengthy lay-off. And he’s still receiving treatment for the injury despite having been available from the bench prior to the international pause.

“Tyler Walker is not training because he’s waiting for his knee to settle down,” revealed Robins.

“As you know he had a torn cruciate, not ruptured, and it needed time to settle down. He’s also had a lateral problem as well in the ligament in the side of his knee, so he’s been trying to get clear of those, but he’s still feeling some pain so he hasn’t trained.”

He added: “Tyler won’t be available for a while. I don’t know how long. He is improving slowly but not quickly enough to be involved and he hasn’t been involved in anything since the break.”

KYLE MCFADZEAN

The 35-year-old defender suffered a calf strain in a warm-up game of head tennis in Spain, which resulted in him being on crutches and going for a scan to establish the seriousness of the injury.

And Robins has confirmed the worst, saying: “Unfortunately Kyle’s going to miss a few more games, so we are where we are.

“It’s going to be a fair length of time. I don’t know how long yet because things have to settle. The scan has shown a tear in his calf and he has to overcome that. Knowing Kyle he will fight to get back earlier than the prognosis, but let’s see.”

MATTY GODDEN

The striker suffered a major setback to his season against Sheffield United in mid-october, rupturing his ankle ligaments and requiring surgery that will keep him out until the end of January at the earliest.

Providing an update, Robins said: “He’s at six weeks on Tuesday (December 13) and he’s going back to the specialist and hopefully he will be given the green light to kick on.
