‘Played their hearts out’

-

SKY BLUES fans called for City to celebrate the side’s achievements after their agonising defeat at Wembley on Saturday.

The club fell at the final hurdle in their effort to reach the Premier League against Luton Town – but after a difficult first half they shone in the rest of the match and only missed out on penalties.

Fans took to social media to talk of their heartbreak but many also expressed their solidarity and their pride in how hard the team worked to reach the final. Wendy Cosgrove said: “A hero’s welcome back home, that’s what they deserve.

“They played their hearts out and done us proud, and I am one of those people that hate football. They definitely deserve a hero’s welcome back home.”

William Guild added: “I think we should put a ‘Well done Sky Blues, we’re proud of you’ banner at the arena.”

A third said: “I think they should still have the parade to celebrate how bloody hard they’ve worked and show how much we love them.”

Charlotte Dimbleby added: “With open arms, who cares they lost, they played well and what an achievement to get from rock bottom to play-off finals.”

Kevin Taylor also thinks a bus parade should be given to the players and said: “Give them a bus parade, they have done our city proud. We are all very proud of our football team, with a great season and now an owner that will help us achieve our goal.”

However, Stuart Summer said that a bus parade may not be the best idea and added: “Maybe not a bus parade but park the bus out in Broadgate and have a interview style celebration with the team on the top of the bus with a party atmosphere.”
