Just ‘horrible’ to watch that ending – Dion

-

FORMER Coventry City star Dion Dublin has admitted it was “horrible” watching his former club lose their Championship play-off final against Luton.

Dublin, who played in sky blue from 1994 to 1998, labelled the first-half display from his former side as “absolutely useless” before a half-time rally and tactical change brought Mark Robins’ men into the ascendancy.

“It was horrible watching it live,” he told BBC 5 Live. “Luton were outstanding first half and deserved the lead. Mark Robins said what he had to say at half-time and Coventry came out flying.

“They got level. It’s a horrible way to go out after that many games. The amount of fans that were there for both clubs.

“They made so much noise. I actually thought Coventry were absolutely useless in the first half. Luton steamrollered them in the first half with the press and physicality.

“Robins changed it at halftime with [Matty] Godden [coming on] and it made a difference.”

Dublin has also spoken about the pressure of taking penalties, particularly when one miss could result in defeat.

He said: “You have ten perfect penalties. The keepers guessed the right way but got nowhere near them. They were hitting the side netting.

“The confidence levels were good but pressure gets to you. I’ve only done it once. I was in the same situation – you have to score to stay in.

“Most of my penalties were side-footed into the corner. In a play-off final you close your eyes and put your laces through it. Mine went in the top corner luckily but I had no idea where it was going.”
