In demand Foodbank reveals areas where most need help

- By CLAIRE HARRISON

News Reporter NUNEATON Foodbank has revealed the parts of the town where most families need help.

It has said that, in the 12 months up to March, it gave out 17.5 tonnes of food to feed 7,930 people across the borough of Nuneaton and Bedworth, including 2,926 children.

Half of those families were in the four wards of Abbey, Camp Hill, Kingswood and Wembrook. The Holy Trinity Church in Attleborough is the busiest hub.

There has been no let down in the need for help, officials say. In fact, the foodbank has said that it continues to increase month by month and they are having to use precious funds to ensure there is enough food to make up the parcels. “Despite the generous donations of food we have to buy the equivalent of 10 per cent of our donations from food outlets to supplement our stocks,” a spokesman said. “We are currently spending 25 per cent of our income on food purchases. This is made possible by grants and corporate sponsorship from a range of sources across the region.”

But they say they remain grateful for the continued generosity of residents across the two towns who donate food at Sainsbury’s, Asda and Tesco and as well as at collection points in the Co-op and other stores, churches, community centres, schools and companies. In addition are the donations from special events in schools, and a number of individual donors.

What they need most now: UHT milk. Tinned meats. Puddings. Tinned fruit. Custard. Pasta sauce. Fruit juice.

Food and toiletries can be donated at drop off points in Asda Nuneaton, Sainsbury’s, Attleborough Co-op, Bulkington Co-op, Galley Common Co-op and also Dunelm Mill in Nuneaton.
