Sizzling ‘Iberian Plume’ to bring 25C highs this week as weather hots up

- By PAUL SUART News Reporter

FINE and dry weather will keep on coming this week with forecasters expecting the UK to enjoy its hottest day of the year thanks to the arrival of an ‘Iberian Plume.’

The Welsh coastal town of Porthmadog recorded 25.1C last Tuesday.

But forecasters believe that value could be surpassed this week, particularly from Thursday onwards when the mercury is really set to climb as a warm weather system moves in from the south.

Met Office meteorologist Stephen Dixon told Sky News it was “not beyond the realms of possibility” this week could bring the hottest day of the year, adding: “As we move towards next weekend there’s a signal for temperatures possibly getting towards the mid-20s.”

The majority of the country will feel “very pleasant with sunshine”, according to Mr Dixon, but warmer places could climb to 24C or 25C with a small chance of sheltered spots in the west could reach 26C.

Met Office meteorologist Rachel Ayers added: “We’d be looking at that (hottest day of the year) somewhere in the west, probably similar kind of areas, parts of Wales, maybe south west England.”

The forecast for Coventry and Warwickshire is for very settled weather over the coming days, though the wind is likely to pick up in the second half of the week as the mercury rises.

Long spells of sunshine are forecast every day this week with the only rain in the forecast coming late afternoon on Sunday when temperatures across our region could hit 24C.

The Met Office’s long-range weather forecast from June 6 to June 15 states the UK is likely to see a continuation of the recent dry weather.

The UV index rating is set to be high so sunscreen is vital for those heading to the beach or sunbathing, while pollen levels are set to increase as more grasses come into flowers.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: A lot of strong sunshine each day once early cloud clears. Feeling warm with temperatures gradually climbing, albeit with a slightly strengthening breeze.
