HUNDREDS PAY TRIBUTE TO GRANDMOTHER AFTER DOG ATTACK
TRIBUTES have been paid to a beloved grandmother who was mauled to death by a dog while sunbathing. It happened on a quiet residential street in Bedworth.
Officers were called to Kathleen Avenue on the afternoon of Friday, June 2. A woman in her 70s was declared dead at the scene at around 3.50pm. A neighbour described the elderly woman as a ‘nice old lady.’ Others said the incident was ‘terrible’ and were left shocked by the tragedy.
Hundreds shared their condolences online as the local community remains rocked by the tragedy. Tasha Leigh Cleveley said: “How awful. Thoughts with all who knew and loved her.”
Amber Giles wrote: “How sad.
Thoughts go out to the lady and her family.”
Gail Hill said: “Tragic, so sorry to the family.”
Tess Dixon wrote: “How awful! Sincere condolences to the family. RIP.”
Sue Shilson said: “So sad, my thoughts are with all concerned.” Lisa Constable said: “Just awful, poor lady. Sending my thoughts and love to her family.”
Officers contained and seized the dog to a secure facility, and say there is no ongoing risk to the wider community. A 52-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of possession of a banned breed of dog and owning a dog dangerously out of control have been bailed.
Tests are being carried out to confirm the dog’s breed, police have confirmed.
Councillor Graham Moreton, from Bedworth, said: “I have heard of this incident on the national news, and I can only imagine the distress that this tragic death has caused her family and friends.
I cannot comment on the details, but I am sure our police officers will fully investigate the circumstances and take whatever action they believe is right.”
