Fire lit next to playing fields in Cov

YOUTHS deliberate­ly lit a fire next to playing fields in Coventry.

Firefighte­rs were called to Howat Road in Keresley End.

Crews were called to land next to Keresley Recreation Ground.

Youths were found to have lit a small fire in the open, said Warwickshi­re Fire and Rescue Service (WFRS).

Firefighte­rs from Nuneaton Fire Station used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze, it is understood. Crews spent around 20 minutes at the scene, according to WFRS.

A spokesman for Warwickshi­re Police said: “Police were made aware of a report of anti-social behaviour on Howat Road in Keresley End shortly before 8.30pm on

Sunday (March 24). A small group of youths are reported to have been setting fires in the field and Warwickshi­re Fire and Rescue Service are understood to have attended the scene to put out the fires. Nobody was seen in the area afterwards and no arrests were made.”

A spokesman for Warwickshi­re Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 8.26pm on Sunday (March 24) to reports of a small fire in the open on Howat Road, Keresley End, Coventry.

“We had one appliance from Nuneaton Fire Station in attendance that found a deliberate­ly set fire around

10 feet wide near Keresley Recreation Ground.

“Crews used a hose to extinguish and were at the scene for around 20 minutes.”
