Fire lit next to playing fields in Cov

YOUTHS deliberately lit a fire next to playing fields in Coventry.

Firefighters were called to Howat Road in Keresley End.

Crews were called to land next to Keresley Recreation Ground.

Youths were found to have lit a small fire in the open, said Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service (WFRS).

Firefighters from Nuneaton Fire Station used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze, it is understood. Crews spent around 20 minutes at the scene, according to WFRS.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: “Police were made aware of a report of anti-social behaviour on Howat Road in Keresley End shortly before 8.30pm on

Sunday (March 24). A small group of youths are reported to have been setting fires in the field and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service are understood to have attended the scene to put out the fires. Nobody was seen in the area afterwards and no arrests were made.”

A spokesman for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 8.26pm on Sunday (March 24) to reports of a small fire in the open on Howat Road, Keresley End, Coventry.

“We had one appliance from Nuneaton Fire Station in attendance that found a deliberately set fire around

10 feet wide near Keresley Recreation Ground.

“Crews used a hose to extinguish and were at the scene for around 20 minutes.”
