With war looming one mistake could be spark

- By email.

THE Polish Prime Minister’s recent warning that war is a real possibility and Europe is not ready just shows the nervousness of NATO countries as battles continue to rage in the Ukraine.

And with a possible change of government coming in the US you can understand why many NATO countries much closer to Russia than us want to make sure their borders are protected if Putin decides to extend his war.

Nuclear protection has certainly kept war at bay for many years and it makes sense for Europe now to strengthen its military capability as war clouds once again loom over the horizon.

Our military needs a lot more money and consideration to make sure we have the very best equipment and firepower which will surely put off any risk of this terrible war in Ukraine from escalating.

But with the war continuing so close to so many NATO members one mistake could lead to catastrophe for not just Europe but the world.

Bank of England just looks after rich

THE Bank of England keeps the interest rate up, so once again we see that the banks record profits and, of course, their bonuses are protected and our debt just keeps on getting dearer.

Even those able to save are being ripped off as the banks keep the interest for themselves without giving savers a bite of their very juicy cherry.

It’s also interesting to read that a 6% interest on your mortgage is equivalent to a 25% mortgage in the 60s so the myth that mortgages were higher in the Sixties is, of course, a distortion of the fact.

The Bank of England is looking after the bankers and the rich, and it is using pay rises as a diversion from the truth.

S T Vaughan,

Trampled over our democratic rights

P SHEEHAN says he will probably spoil his ballot paper.

Given that the new elite order have trampled over our democratic rights, and that you never hear politicians bemoaning low turnouts, I suspect they will rejoice.

They don’t want us to vote. The only democracy they wish to protect is theirs.

R. Allen,

Coventry.
