THOR/ODIN RARITIES

128K VERSIONS

The 128K versions of Nodes of Yesod, The Arc of Yesod and Robin of the Wood are not the easiest to find in good unblemished condition. The locking mechanisms on the clamshell cases for these games broke quite easily and the inlays had coupons to cut out to obtain Odin ID cards, badges and posters, so they are frequently incomplete. Buying any of these three games should set you back around £30/£35 apiece.

THOR FOUR PACK COLLECTION

This rare four pack is a tough one to locate, mainly due to the fragility of the packaging. The four games in the collection are the standard releases of Jack and the Beanstalk,

Giant’s Revenge, The

House that Jack Built and

Twilight Zone, but are held together with a rather flimsy outer cardboard sleeve.

The games were individually sealed, wrapped in the sleeve and then sealed again as a group. This worked fine while sealed, but once opened, the sleeve didn’t do the job it was designed for any longer and as such was usually discarded. The cellophane wrapping that kept the four games together also became very brittle and broke away over time, so finding intact sealed copies is unusual. Expect to pay around £50.

MEGA FRUIT

Of all the early releases by Thor, Mega Fruit edges out the rest as the most difficult to track down. The game itself is, unsurprisingly, a fruit machine simulator, and not a very good one at that. Presumably sales were poor and as such it’s a rarity due to its own rubbishness.

As with many of the early Thor titles, several featured “Free Poster Offer” stickers firmly stuck to the actual inlays rather than the cassette case. Peeling it off almost always damaged the inlay.

Getting the free poster caused more damage as it involved snipping out a coupon from the inlay and posting it to Thor. The hunt for a clean and complete copy of Mega Fruit, as well as other early Thor games, is a lot harder than it should be, with a minty fresh copy of Mega Fruit costing you around the £30/£35 mark.
